After the death of his grandmother, Tom Lee, a Chinese-American young boy in San Francisco, meets a talking tiger named Mr. Hu and discovers he's the latest in a long line of guardians who protect an ancient phoenix from evildoers. With a band of mythological misfits, their mission is to protect the ancient phoenix from Vatten and the Clan of Nine, who wish to use its powers for evil.
